Once you and Dr. Nguyen determine that dental implants are right for you, Dr. Nguyen will work closely with necessary specialists to create a custom treatment plan that works well for you. Once you have the implant placed and your gums surrounding the post heal, Dr. Nguyen will attach a natural-looking crown to your dental implant that will act as a replacement tooth. Your smile will be healthy and strong, and you’ll leave our office with confidence and peace of mind.
Because dental implants are permanent and can last a lifetime, they are considered an investment in your dental health. Other solutions for missing teeth, like dentures and bridges, usually need to be replaced. Dentures are removable and less durable. Bridges involve cutting other teeth and can get new cavities. Though these other options are initially less expensive, dental implants will save you time, money, and headache in the long run.
Money should never come between you and your dental health, and that’s why we provide resources to ensure that your treatment stays affordable and within your budget. We are in network with a wide range of insurance companies. If you don’t have insurance, we also offer payment plans for your treatment. During your consultation, Dr. Nguyen will assess your dental health to determine whether you are a good candidate for implants. To support a permanent implant, patients need to have sufficient jaw bone and healthy gums. If dental implants are the right option for you and your mouth is healthy enough to safely surgically insert the implant, Dr. Nguyen will begin the process. If you'd like a dental implant consultation, contact Dr. Nguyen, our Tomball restorative dentist today.
The dental implant process takes about 3-6 months in total and consists of two primary stages; placement and restoration. At our office, Dr. Tom Nguyen specializes in dental implant restorations and works with qualified oral surgeons for dental implant placement.
The process will begin with a consultation at our office. If Dr. Nguyen thinks that you are a good fit for an implant, we will refer you to an oral surgeon. You’ll have a comprehensive oral exam, and x-rays and images of your mouth will be taken at your first appointment with your oral surgeon.
At your following appointment, your oral surgeon will place your dental implant. Your mouth will be cleaned and numbed. (You can also be sedated during this process.) Next, your oral surgeon will create a small opening in your gums and your implant will be precisely placed into your jaw bone according to your implant placement plan. The area will be disinfected and stitched shut.
The initial healing process takes about 2 weeks. You’ll have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Nguyen after you recover from the implant placement, and the dental restoration process will begin. Dr. Nguyen will schedule a few follow-up appointments, where impressions and images of your smile will be taken.
Then, he will work with a dental lab to create your permanent dental restoration, such as a dental crown. Once your dental implant has fully bonded with your mouth (which takes 3-6 months), you’ll come in for your final appointment. Dr. Nguyen will check your restoration to make sure that it fits properly, then he will bond it into place, completing the procedure.
Overall, the process of getting a dental implant takes several appointments with your oral surgeon and Dr. Nguyen at Willow Creek Smiles over a period of 3-6 months. This time may vary depending on your oral health, additional pre-implant surgeries that may be required (such as tooth extraction), and how quickly you recover from the procedure.
Wondering why you should choose dental implants instead of alternative treatments like dental bridges? Dental implants last longer than any other method of restoring a missing tooth, with a lifespan of 30 years or longer with proper care.
Dental implants also look and feel very natural, compared to alternatives like bridges and partial dentures. They will never shift or move when you eat, speak or chew, which makes them more comfortable and convenient.
Another great benefit of dental implants is that they do not require any of the surrounding teeth to be trimmed. Dental bridges, on the other hand, require healthy enamel to be removed from your teeth in order to accommodate the crowns required to restore your missing tooth.
Dental implants require very little special care. Just brush and floss normally to keep your implants healthy, and see Dr. Nguyen for an oral exam and teeth cleaning at Willow Creek Smiles every six months.
