If you’re currently using Invisalign aligners to straighten your smile, or you’re just interested in learning more about what to expect from the process, the team at Willow Creek Smiles wants to help! Dr. Nguyen specializes in Invisalign in Tomball, and he has a few tips to make sure you get the most out of your treatment:
One of the most unique things about Invisalign is that you can remove your aligners to eat and drink, brush and floss, and play contact sports. This is a huge benefit because it allows you to remain comfortable throughout your treatment.
However, this also means that you need to be in control of your own treatment, and remember to wear your aligners consistently for at least 22 hours per day. Ideally, you should only be removing them to eat and to drink (except for water), and while you’re brushing and flossing.
If you neglect this advice and start wearing your aligners less, or if you forget to put them back in, your treatment time will increase dramatically.
This advice is especially important when you get new set of aligners from Dr. Nguyen. Each time you receive new aligners, wear them as much as you possibly can for 48 hours, in order to help your mouth quickly adjust to the new aligner.
You should take advantage of the fact that your aligners are removable. Remove them and brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day for two minutes, and floss at least once per day. This is important because Invisalign will hold any bacteria in your mouth directly against your teeth.
If you don’t brush and floss properly, this could result in a higher risk of cavities. Don’t neglect regular oral hygiene! Make sure your teeth are perfectly clean for the best results.
Caring for your aligners is very easy, but it requires a consistent routine. Wash your aligners every time you brush your teeth using a gentle, antibacterial soap. This helps eliminate surface bacteria.
In addition, avoid using very hot water. Extremely hot water can warp and damage your aligners, as they are quite thin and become pliable when they are hot. You should use water that’s only slightly warm to the touch in order to prevent any damage.
These three simple steps are the best way to preserve your oral health and ensure that you get the best results possible from Invisalign. If you want more advice, or if you are interested in learning more about Invisalign, call us today to schedule an appointment.
