How should I care for my baby's teeth?
It’s recommended to start caring for your baby’s teeth as soon as their first tooth erupts, typically bringing them in for an exam before their first birthday. Then, regular six-month checkups will help our team monitor their oral health development and provide preventative care.
Here are some additional tips to help prevent issues with your child’s teeth:
- After feeding, flush your baby’s teeth with water or wipe their teeth down with a damp cloth, especially before they sleep. Milk or formula residue left in the mouth can cause decay.
- It’s best to wean your child off breastfeeding or bottled milk by age one. This will hep them avoid decay and jaw growth issues from excessive sucking.
- Start brushing their teeth as soon as the first tooth appears. Even a small part of a tooth showing can develop a cavity. Use a soft-bristled brush and water, and ask our team when it’s appropriate to start using a small amount of toothpaste.
- When your child is old enough to brush independently, continue monitoring their brushing habits.
- Avoid giving them sugary drinks or milk before bedtime.
- If your child has a sugary drink, give them a straw so their teeth have less contact with the liquid.
- Overall, try to limit the amount of sugary foods and drinks your child consumes.

What is pulp therapy?
Pulp therapy in pediatric dentistry treats infected or damaged tooth pulp, often due to decay or trauma. It preserves the affected baby tooth, maintaining its function and space for permanent teeth.
The procedure involves removing diseased pulp, disinfecting the area, and sealing it. Pulp therapy helps prevent pain, infection, and early tooth loss, supporting children’s dental development and oral health.
